Put yourself out there

It can be daunting to say to the world ‘come and find me’ but it shows confidence and it helps employers find you.
  1. Practice with LinkedIn. Create a profile and include everything you put together for your CV. Then copy the link to your profile and include it in emails and on your CV.
  2. Register with recruitment agencies, especially the ones filling jobs in the industry you’ve set your sights on. Chase them every week. Don’t wait for them to call you, as they will almost always turn to people they think of first, which will be the people they hear from most.
  3. Join as many job websites as you can find, uploading your CV to each one. Create a routine for browsing the jobs every couple of days and apply for all the suitable ones, trying to make your application even better each time.
  4. Put out ‘your feelers’ using social media like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Look up employers you want to work for, and regularly check their social media spaces and their website, to be ahead of the game when they’re recruiting. What you learn about them will also come in handy at interview.
  5. Ask around and contact bosses who may have work in future. If they don’t have work right now, ask who might and tell that person they were recommended by the person who gave you their contact details.
